Charting the Future embodies our collective response to the intense challenges facing higher education today. MnSCU has never undertaken an effort of this magnitude, and although we have been working on some of the issues for a long time, change has been modest at best.
Seventy percent of the time, large scale change efforts fail, and they fail because there is a lack of internal capacity to facilitate the change effort and too little is done to ensure that all internal stakeholders are deeply engaged in the endeavor.
The stakes for our students, colleges, universities, and communities are too high for us to fail. But we cannot succeed by working the same way we have been working over the past 20 years. In Einstein’s words, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
